About

Built for one channel first.

Shortmint started as the tool behind BioCurious, a science Shorts channel about the human body. Every feature on this site was needed by that channel before it was written down here.

Why it exists

Making one good Short by hand is an evening: write it, find pictures, record a voice, cut it, caption it, write a title, make a thumbnail, upload it. Doing that every day is a job. Shortmint does the whole chain from one line of text, so the person running the channel spends their time on the part that matters, deciding what is worth making.

The channel it is tested on

BioCurious is made end to end with Shortmint. These are its own YouTube numbers, read from YouTube's API:

—public Shorts
—views on them
—watched on the best one
0minutes of editing

According to the channel's YouTube Analytics, in the two weeks to 20 October 2026 it had 5,914 views, and 87% of them came from the Shorts feed. It's a young channel and the numbers are modest. They're here because they're real, and because they changed how the tool works.

What the numbers taught us

Every two weeks the channel's videos are ranked on views per day and how much of each video people watched. Three lessons came out of it and went straight back into the scripts and listings:

  • Give viewers something to do. Shorts that asked viewers to try something on their own body were the most watched by a wide margin. The ring-finger test drew about 295 views a day in its first five days and, per YouTube Analytics, kept viewers for 87% of its length. Shorts that only stated a fact, like how fast a sneeze is, mostly stalled under two views a day.
  • Drop the emoji. Titles with an emoji averaged about 2.5 views a day. Titles without averaged about 30.
  • Answer early. Videos that held the answer back until the end lost half their viewers before it arrived. Scripts now name the result by the tenth second.

How it runs

Shortmint runs on your own Mac. Your scripts, videos and channel logins stay on your machine, and nothing is published until you or a schedule you switched on publishes it. It talks to YouTube, Instagram and Facebook only through their official APIs, with permissions you grant and can remove at any time.
